  2. PCELM
  3. =====

  5. PCELM is an external electronic mailer program which can either
  6. be called from NOS (with the NOS 'mail' command) or directly from
  7. the DOS prompt.
  8.  
  9. PCELM has a friendly menu-driven interface, and is largely
  10. self-explanatory.  It contains a built-in text editor, support
  11. for message address filtering, screen colour mapping and other
  12. very useful features.  PCELM prompt messages and error messages
  13. are kept in a separate file, which you can edit into your own
  14. language if required.

  16. Before use, PCELM requires a startup file (PCELM.RC) to specify
  17. certain initial parameter settings.  See the MASTERS directory
  18. for an example.

  20. Also, PCELM requires that certain DOS environment variables be
  21. set up before use.

  23. In particular, it is essential that the HOME variable is set up
  24. correctly, defined with a D-O-S pathname, N-O-T a SUBSTituted
  25. drive name.

  27. For example, PCELM will work properly if you define HOME as:

  29.    SET HOME=C:\NOS              <<<<<<<<   THIS WORKS

  31. but will NOT work if you set HOME as:
  32.  
  33.    SET HOME=N:\                 <<<<<<<<   THIS DOES  N-O-T  WORK

  38. [PCELM is probably the mailer of choice, offering far more
  39. features than BM or ELM or the built-in NOS mailbox].

  41. WARNING:  PCELM is LARGE!  You will need to make as much
  42. convential RAM available as possible if you want to start PCELM
  43. from NOS (with the 'mail' command).  Otherwise you will have to
  44. run PCELM independently (from the DOS command line), or run ELM.
